The spring has arrived quite a few weeks ago, but the peonies are just beginning to bloom. Make one and wear it in your hair with this easy tutorial.
Peonies are gorgeous flowers and I’ve made quite a few over the years. They are colorful and easy to make and to wear in a hair bun or on a vest or even on a summer hat.
You surely have some fabrics lying around, waiting for a project. Because of the double layers, this design works great with silk, satin, even cotton or soft, sheer fabrics left over from dresses or old clothes.
Find your fabrics, cut them up and follow the photos for the steps, each of them has an explanation.
Materials: 12 large fabric squares, 6 smaller squares, stamens, two pieces of felt, glue gun, scissors.
Make the large double round petals.
One double round petal is ready. Make five more. Don’t glue the sides.
Make three small double round petals. Seal the sides for these three.
Make sure there are no stray threads.
All the petals are finished.
Take two petals and glue them together. Add each and glue along one base of each petal. Cut off the excess glue.
You don’t have to glue the petals for the base all the way to the center.
This is the lower layer of petals.
The next step is attaching the flower to the felt base. Use a color similar with your flower. I used black because all of my fabrics were hidden somewhere.
Glue the flower to the felt base. Now glue the three center petals. Put a dab of hot glue in the center, in the shape of a triangle.
Add a dab of glue to the center of the flower, then insert the stamens one by one until you feel they are enough and hide any imperfections.
Add a dab of glue to the center of the flower, then insert the stamens one by one until you feel they are enough and hide any imperfections.
The stamens can be in any color you like. I usually prefer ivory or black.
The last step is attaching the flower on your headband. You can use two felt circles or one circle and a rectangle. The headband will be sandwiched between the two layers of felt.
Now you can make it into a gift or wear it to brighten your day. Congratulations!
The headband is finished and it looks awesome!
